Web 2.0: 500 channels and nothing to watch? Just you wait.

Web 2.0 is the name given to the new model of Web interaction: rather than only read or download information from the Web, people have now turned the Web into a truly two-way communication tool. Through videos, blogs, podcasts and the like, consumers are creating their own content as rapidly as they are viewing others’.

With about 77% of U.S. homes connected to the Web via broadband (source: websiteoptimization.com), uploading is no longer a hassle for large numbers of people. User-friendly Web sites make it easy to upload files. Audio, video and text editing is a snap. And everyone has something to say. Hence, the explosion of … stuff on the Web.

But is it any good? Most everyone thinks it’s just drivel. But I predict this will change for the better.

Right now, people are experimenting, learning the new tools, getting comfortable with self-expression. Some will take it seriously enough to work toward getting better at it. It’s going to be harder for them to rise above the din, but when they do, they’ll be worthy of their fame.
